Our value statement is a direct reflection from John McKeon’s service in the US Navy. At McKeon Financial, we work rigorously to be “competent to stand the watch” with regards to your financial future. We feel a tremendous responsibility when managing your investments and insurance, and we do not take that responsibility lightly. Whatever amount you invest with us or insure through us, we know that it’s very important to you and it absolutely requires our best efforts, every time. We continuously strive to improve our knowledge, experience, and tools to help our clients because we know there is always more to learn; you can never “know it all”.
"As a former officer aboard a Los Angeles Class Nuclear Powered Fast Attack Submarine, the most important watch to stand was the Officer of the Deck, with the responsibility of 140 lives and $1 Billion dollars of equipment at stake. You had to study and train very hard to become ‘competent to stand the watch’. ‘Competent to stand the watch’ meant you knew very well how to do your job but you never ‘knew it all’. You constantly studied and trained, asked questions, and got help whenever you needed it. You also depended on the other members of your watch team and on their expertise to safely navigate the waters about you.” ~ John E. McKeon
Meet Our Team
President, John E. McKeon
John grew up in Hawaii, graduating from Punahou School on Oahu in 1983. Following one year of college at Iowa State University on a Naval ROTC Scholarship, John was accepted to the U.S. Naval Academy, where he graduated with distinction (top 10% of his class) in 1988 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics.
He then received a scholarship and graduated from Penn State University in 1990 with a Master’s Degree in Nuclear Engineering.
John served in the Naval Submarine Service until 1996. During that time, from 1991 until 1996, John served at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, as an officer aboard the USS Olympia (SSN 717) and on the staff for the Commander, Anti-Submarine Warfare Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet.
John left active duty service as a Lieutenant, and was promoted to Lieutenant Commander while serving in the Naval Reserves.
On a personal note, John enjoys hiking, working out, and photography. He also enjoys spending quality time with his wife and son and raising beagles.
Vice President, David J. Williams
Dave graduated from Case Western Reserve in Cleveland, OH, in 1971 with a major in Psychology and a minor in Business. He's also a member of the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity.
Dave and his wife Cheri married shortly after graduation. They have one daughter, Heidi, who is the wife of John McKeon. Dave and Cheri enjoy traveling, the outdoors, and spending time with family.
Dave also loves tennis, running, and hiking. Dave and Cheri live in Canfield, Ohio, and visit Washington State.
Dave and Cheri know the critical need for LTC protection. Over a ten year period, Cheri's parents required home care, followed by facility care, one parent suffering from Alzheimer's disease and the other from two debilitating strokes.
Dave was introduced to long term care insurance by his son-in-law, John McKeon, and has worked with John professionally since 1999.
With the creation of McKeon Financial, it was natural for Dave to expand his services as well, and contribute to the overall success of the company. Dave has insurance clients both in Washington State as well as throughout Ohio and Pennsylvania.
Chief Financial Officer, Cheri Williams
Cheri Williams, a Canfield, Ohio native, graduated from Youngstown State University with a B.S. degree in Biology and Chemistry. Her early years in Ohio were spent with her parents who were dedicated to instilling in her a love of the outdoors, the animals, the plants and all things "Nature." However, upon entering the job market she decided to choose Business over Biology and started her post graduate career in accounting.
Cheri holds her Series 7 and Series 66 Securities Licenses and is the licensed administrative back-up for John McKeon. Her many years in corporate accounting and attention to detail have uniquely qualified her for her position as the Chief Financial Officer of McKeon Financial, which she has held since the inception of McKeon Financial in January 2004.
During the times when she's not in the Washington office, Cheri takes advantage of the power of computers and telecommutes daily with the office. Cheri and her husband David married shortly after graduation. They have one daughter, Heidi, who's the wife of John McKeon.
Cheri's hobbies include her Golden Retrievers with which she has earned U.S. and Canadian obedience titles. She's a member of the Youngstown All Breed Training Club, The Salem Hunting Club and the NE Ohio Conservation Association.
Her idea of fun in Washington State is to pack up the dogs and take her Jeep up into the mountains on the forest service roads to enjoy the scenery, hiking and 4x4ing. Cheri is an avid hiker. She also enjoys playing the piano and dulcimer, art and dabbling in watercolor painting when time permits.
Tom's humble beginning started in High Prairie, Alberta where he grew up in one of the northernmost remote towns of its size. His childhood was highlighted with camping, fishing, hunting, and other adventures. His first ambition in life was to be a business owner and he started his first of many business ventures at age 11, shoveling driveways in the neighborhood; a successful enterprise in northern Canada! After travelling from California to the Yukon, Tom settled in Montana where he helped start a construction business.
His unique credentials as a former business owner, as well as hands-on experience from working with hundreds of business clients, has given him the ability to help clients become educated and identify and protect key areas at risk while still pursuing their financial goals.
After being in business for several years as an independent producer, Tom was in a serious car accident that left him temporarily paralyzed. Tom went into banking where he was able to obtain his investment licenses and began working towards becoming a fully licensed financial advisor.
In banking, he received an honorary MVP award from his colleagues, and was consistently placed in the Top 5 Bankers for his District. After 3 successful surgeries, Tom was able to begin working as an independent advisor again and eventually found a home at McKeon Financial. Tom currently lives in Everett with his three children: Caitlin, Levi and Faith. He enjoys working out, running, and all things outdoors.
